Feeling at Home toolkit
This free toolkit from Feeling At Home has loads of ideas for staff and residents to work on together to improve the quality of the home environment for people with a learning disability. Funded by the NIHR School for Social Care Research, the project led by KCL, was done with adults with learning disabilities living in group homes with staff support.
Set out in 7 sections, the illustrated, easy-read Toolkit focuses on:
- Making a decision
- Bedroom
- Shared Spaces
- Garden
- Cooking and cleaning
- Getting on with people
- Community
It contains practical advice, hints and tips. And, alongside the Toolkit, there is a planning sheet to make notes on and a Feeling at Home Checklist. This can help housemates in their grouped accommodation identify aspects of their home they would like to work on, so they can feel more at home where they live.
