Digital Telecare Readiness Report: Beyond the Switchover

Digital Telecare Readiness report part 2 cover sml

Are housing providers ready for the digital switchover challenge? This was the question at the heart of the Digital Technology Housing Strategy Barometer from Housing LIN and Appello, with findings revealed in our two-part Digital Readiness Report 2026.

Part one of this report highlighted an “awareness paradox”: while 98.6% of providers know the deadline is coming, only 23.6% are concerned. Furthermore, 60% lack the digital skills to decide on a strategy, leaving many drifting toward the deadline unprepared. With this in mind, what are the sector’s views on future technology investment? In part two of our report, we look at priorities for 2026 and beyond.

The findings show:

  • Telecare tops the agenda: 65% say upgrading telecare is their number one technology investment, with 41.3% placing it among their highest strategic priorities for 2026.
  • Shift beyond compliance: Technology is viewed as a foundation for proactive care (39.7%) and improving communication (66.7%). Providers are looking at how tech enhances the resident experience but this requires more than a like-for-like swap.
  • Future-proof focus: 49% seek scalable solutions. While interim solutions bridge the gap, a full digital transition is seen as essential for long-term goals.

Jeremy Porteus, CEO of the Housing LIN, said:

“Whether helping to facilitate care and support at home in mainstream housing or for residents in supported accommodation, this report evidences that both the mainstream and specialist housing sectors are woefully unprepared for the digital switchover."

This report provides essential sector-wide insights to aid your switchover strategy as we count down to the January 2027 deadline.
