Dementia assessment and improvement framework

Dementia costs the UK an estimated £26 billion per year, despite 670,000 family carers providing the equivalent of £11 billion of care a year (Alzheimer’s Society 2014).

While designed to support and enable directors of nursing and medical directors to achieve ‘outstanding’ care standards for those living with dementia during their stay in hospital, NHS Improvement’s framework recognises that this includes liaising with different parts of the social care system and voluntary sector to carry out housing improvements and adaptations or help individuals to stay at home for longer.

It sets out 8 standards, one of which takes into consideration dementia-friendly environments.
