Collaborative Housing, Ageing and Social Care: Lessons from Europe

Collaborative Housing, Ageing and Social Care cover sml

Published by Policy Press in collaboration with the University of Bristol and the London School of Economics, this book examines how collaborative housing could reshape care for Europe’s ageing population. Research across 5 European countries shows citizen-led housing innovations offer viable alternatives to failing institutional care models.

The book comes after an international festival of community-led housing and cohousing held in Barcelona in 2023. Led by the NIHR SSCR-funded CHIC project, which reported in 2024, it captures international examples and grounds these within local policy developments and strategies.

The Housing LIN’s CEO, Jeremy Porteus, in conversation with Maite Arrondo, lead coordinator for the Network of Cities for Collaborative Housing in Barcelona, was thrilled to contribute to this important publication. We look forward to hosting the formal launch event as part of our autumn/winter HAPPI Hour webinar series on Tuesday, 18 November.
