Ageing, inequality and urban regeneration: Collaborative research with older people living in North Manchester

This report is based on research undertaken by members of the Manchester Urban Ageing Research Group [MUARG], University of Manchester. It provides insights into the experiences of older people living in North Manchester, a large geographical area which is home to diverse, multicultural communities. The area is characterised by multiple forms of deprivation and significant health inequalities among people aged 50 and over and is undergoing Northern England’s largest urban regeneration programme through a series of plans and investments over the next 15-20 years.

As the area starts to be transformed, researchers from MUARG have been working with older residents and community groups across North Manchester to understand the everyday life of diverse communities and to explore how proposed regeneration could be developed with residents to create more equitable communities in which to grow older.
