Age-friendly Town and Parish Guide

This guide, prepared by Arup and Housing LIN in collaboration with and on behalf of the Centre for Ageing Better, demonstrates the important role of town and parish councils in creating age-friendly communities and gives examples from local councils who are already leading the way.

The guide for towns and parishes, endorsed by both the National Association of Local Councils (opens new window) and Society of Local Council Clerks (opens new window), is aimed at anyone working in town and parish councils, as well as those who are working with them.

The guide covers:

• How town and parish councils' responsibilities, activities and influencing roles can be applied to make the built and social environments of towns and parishes more age-friendly  
• Example case studies from 21 town and parish councils of age-friendly practice in action
• Mapping and action planning tools to help town and parish councils take the first step
