Training the Future of Care Students Test Real-World Health Technology in Live Simulations
Preparing the next generation of health and care professionals requires more than theory, it requires experience and innovation. In order for our health and social care services to evolve, there is an increasing need for professionals who not only understand care delivery but also the technology that supports it. From digital monitoring and connected devices to data-led insights, the future workforce must be confident working alongside rapidly advancing care technology solutions.
Leading Technology Enabled Care provider, Everon Group (opens new window) recently partnered with East Kent Colleges Group (EKC) to give students the chance to work with cutting-edge care technology, testing products in simulated care and nursing home environments and gaining practical insight that will shape their careers and the future of care.
The partnership centres on simulated care and nursing home environments set up across the college’s six campuses. Within these realistic 10-room setups, students from health and social care, electrical, and engineering courses engage directly with Everon’s products, testing functionality, spotting potential improvements and considering usability from multiple perspectives. By embedding testing into the student experience, Everon ensures its products are scrutinized as thoroughly as possible before being deployed in real-world care settings.
Richard Hosier, Group Product Owner at Everon, spends up to three days a week at the campuses, guiding the testing sessions and helping students approach the technology critically.
Commenting on the partnership, Richard said:
“We are excited to partner with East Kent Colleges Group to enhance students’ understanding of the crucial importance of thorough product testing.
“In the health technology sector, it is vital to recognise the potential risks of deploying a product directly to customers without thorough testing. This initiative is essential to ensure the quality and reliability that underpins all of our products, while also preparing the next generation of workers. These individuals will bring unique, alternative insights, benefiting from their varied academic backgrounds and their digital-native perspectives.”
Around 150–200 students participate in the program, bringing a range of skills and perspectives. Health and social care learners focus on usability and human experience, while engineering and electrical students contribute technical insights.
The partnership builds on a long-standing relationship between Everon UK and EKC Group. Recently, Everon UK and EKC Ashford College formalised their collaboration through a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), highlighting a shared commitment to delivering high-quality learning, practical training, and career opportunities for students across Kent.
Jamie Weir, Chief Communications Officer at EKC Group, said:
“We’re so excited to be working with Everon UK. This partnership is a great example of how further education and industry can work together and create some really meaningful opportunities and experiences for the next generation.
Our learners gain valuable skills in data, reporting, and problem solving, while the insights they produce help Everon UK continue refining their product. With technology transforming health and social care, this project also supports our wider assistive tech ambitions and inspires learners about the opportunities in this growing sector.
”At EKC Group, we’re committed to helping local employers innovate, whether through collaborations like this, access to our facilities, or support for SMEs adopting new technologies.”
By combining education, innovation and hands-on experience, the partnership equips the next generation of professionals with the skills, confidence, and insight needed to shape the future of health and social care.
Through initiatives like this, Everon Group demonstrates how industry and education can work together to deliver meaningful impact, preparing students for careers while ensuring technology serves the people who need it most.
We are also grateful to Everon (opens new window) for sponsoring the Housing LIN’s Technology enabled Care and Housing webpages.
