Supporting LGBTQ+ inclusion in housing for older people

HAPPI pride month

Pride Month 2025 is a powerful reminder of the importance of inclusion, visibility and equality – not only in society at large but also in the spaces we live as we grow older.

For the housing with care and support sector, this is especially vital. Many older LGBTQ+ people have lived through decades of discrimination and exclusion. As they age, they often face unique challenges, including isolation and a lack of housing that recognises and respects their identities and experiences.

At Housing LIN, we believe everyone deserves to age in a place where they feel safe, valued and truly at home. That’s why we’re proud to mark Pride Month 2025 by spotlighting the voices, experiences and needs of older LGBTQ+ people and promoting resources and innovations that champion inclusive housing and care.

🏳️‍🌈HAPPI Hour Webinar – Pride and Overcoming Prejudice: Making Safe Choices
This HAPPI Hour featured two key segments. First, we spotlighted a new impact project, developed with the Universities of Surrey and Hertfordshire, Tonic Housing, and Stonewall, focused on improving access to information and services for older LGBTQ+ people in London. The second part explored inclusive housing models, including an extra care scheme in Manchester by Great Places and the LGBT Foundation, and the University of Kent’s CIRCLE project on LGBTQ+-affirming residential care.
