Spending Review unveils £39bn for social and affordable housing

On 11 June, the Chancellor, Rachel Reeves MP, delivered a statement outlining the government’s current spending priorities and announced a £39 billion investment in social and affordable housing over the next decade.
Responding to the announcement, Jeremy Porteus, Chief Executive of the Housing LIN, said:
"Today's announcement of £39 billion investment for social and affordable homes over 10 years is an extremely welcome commitment and good news for the housing sector.
However, we must also see allocations made for supported housing for older and disabled people, as recommended by the Older People's Housing Taskforce. It called on government to boost capital for a new generation of specialist housing as well as sector calls for additional money to ‘save our supported housing’.
The Spending Review therefore presents an opportunity to link up with the specialist housing market - beyond the supply chain of mainstream housing - and be firmly fastened to our wider health and care economy too."
