Planning threshold reforms could unlock more older persons and supported housing
In this new Housing LIN guest blog, Mark Slater, Managing Director at WWA, shares insights on proposed planning policy changes, focusing on new site thresholds and stronger tenure expectations.
He highlights the introduction of a ‘medium’ category for developments of 10–49 homes, which could benefit older persons’ and supported housing through simplified biodiversity requirements, use of Permission in Principle, and more proportionate application processes.
He also discusses improved Local Plan guidance, including accessible housing targets, while arguing that broader, consistent tenure requirements are needed. Overall, the reforms could boost delivery if applied consistently and aligned with local housing needs in the future.
