Older people from ethnic minorities housing needs and perceptions study

Kirklees_Newsletter_image

The Housing LIN has been commissioned by Kirklees Council to conduct a study into the housing needs and preferences of older people from ethnic minorities living in Kirklees.

What is the purpose of his research?

Across the UK our population is ageing, and the communities in Kirklees have more ethnic diversity than those in similar areas. This research will make sure that the Council has the evidence necessary to plan for homes that meet the needs of all communities.

Who are we speaking with?

Anyone over the age of 45 from an ethnic minority background living in Kirklees but in particular people from South Asian and African or African Caribbean groups, which make up significant communities in the district.

How will this research be used?

Kirklees Council will use the evidence from this study to better influence planning and delivery of a range of housing and support options that can reflect what older people from ethnic minority communities and their families say is needed.

For example, the evidence from this research will support the Council to influence the design of new developments like those planned at Dewsbury Riverside and Bradley Park, Huddersfield, to better suit the requirements of older people including those from ethnic minorities.
