New guest blog calls for a long-term vision on accessible homes, shaped by lived experience
To coincide with Occupational Therapy Week 2026, we are pleased to publish a guest blog by disability activist Martha Hall. Drawing on her own experience of waiting years for a suitable home, Martha argues that requiring only 40% of new homes on funded sites to meet Part M standards is short-sighted, given plans for a National Care Service.
She highlights the personal and financial cost of poor housing, from a prolonged hospital stay to inaccessible temporary accommodation, and the invaluable role Occupational Therapy played in helping her reach a home that meets her needs.
