New Policy Exchange report urges more housing for older people

A new report from the Policy Exhange argues that more should be done by government and private developers to ensure an adequate supply of housing for an ageing population.

Building for the Boomers follows the recent RIBA publication Age Friendly Housing in saying that not only are a greater number of houses for older people are needed, but housing that caters to wider range of needs is also needed.

In recent years housing has raced up the political agenda and there has justifiably been a focus on young people’s experience of the housing market, particularly in cities where rents tend to be highest and the prospects of home ownership are most distant. This report highlights an issue is sometimes overlooked – the shortage of homes suitable for ageing baby boomers and its impact on society, including families and younger people.
