In this latest Inspirational Achievement, released as part of Supported Housing Week, Arcadis’ Senior Living & Care team shares how they worked with Bracknell Forest Council to deliver Bridgewell Supported Living, completed in September 2025. The scheme replaces accommodation that no longer met tenants’ mobility, independence or future needs, including bedrooms without lift access and bathrooms that had become increasingly difficult to use.

Bridgewell comprises four self-contained households, each home to five adults with additional needs. Every tenant has a private bedroom and en-suite shower room, while shared kitchens, lounges and dining areas encourage companionship and help people build practical living skills. Staying close to family, friends and familiar places has boosted tenants’ confidence, wellbeing and sense of belonging, and families report greater reassurance too.

Designed for changing needs, the building features wide corridors, lifts, assisted bathrooms and ceiling hoists where required, alongside clear wayfinding, natural light and visual contrast that support neurodiversity. Accessible gardens, sensory planting and a rooftop garden promote wellbeing and social connection, while native planting supports biodiversity.

By helping tenants remain settled locally, Bridgewell also offers preventative value for public services, with Community Nursing Team feedback noting one tenant’s improved wellbeing and no ongoing nursing requirements at that time. Achieving BREEAM Excellent and EPC A through a gas-free design, it shows how supported living can combine choice, dignity, independence and sustainability.
