New Inspirational Achievement: PRP's Moya Cole Hospice reimagines end-of-life care

We are very proud to showcase this new Inspirational Achievement. PRP's Manchester Studio has delivered a new home for Moya Cole Hospice in Heald Green, replacing the previous, outdated Victorian building. While the original setting offered a dignified atmosphere for decades, its ageing infrastructure could no longer support modern, high-level clinical care, prompting PRP's appointment in 2014 to lead a consultation and options appraisal. Six focus groups concluded that a purpose-built facility on adjacent land was the right way forward, and the community-led "Build it Together" campaign went on to raise the £2 million needed to make it happen.

The result is a 27-bedroom inpatient unit with private en-suite rooms and direct, level access to outdoor terraces, set within the Cheadle Royal conservation area. A ground-floor "Village Street" brings together a café, retail and salon space to create a social hub that counters the isolation often associated with healthcare settings, while the "Being You Centre" offers therapy lounges and rehabilitation space for outpatients.

Landscaped gardens — including a Woodland Garden, Sensory Garden and Rehab Garden — bring nature into everyday care, and new training facilities will support health professionals across the region. The scheme was showcased as an Inspirational Achievement at the Housing LIN Conference 2026, co-sponsored by PRP.
