New Age-friendly Built Environment Quick Guides launched
The Centre for Ageing Better, in partnership with Arup and the Housing LIN, has launched a new suite of Age-friendly Built Environment Quick Guides to support the design and delivery of more inclusive, accessible places.
Co-produced with local authorities and community members, the guides provide practical, easy-to-use advice for professionals, policymakers and communities seeking to improve local environments. Covering settings from streets and parks to public buildings and transport, they show how both new and existing places and amenities can better support ageing populations through achievable interventions.
The collection includes seven topic-based guides:
- Bus Stops
- Parks and Green Spaces
- Public and Community Buildings
- Seating and Rest Areas
- Streets and Pavements
- Toilets
- Wayfinding and Signage
Each guide sets out ten key design considerations, supported by examples, case studies and checklists, alongside further resources and implementation guidance. They also make a useful contribution to a range of other tools and resources curated by the Housing LIN on the dedicated age-friendly communities and lifetime homes page on our ‘Design Hub’.
We look forward to showcasing the guides in a forthcoming HAPPI Hour webinar in our Spring/Summer series.
