Housing LIN signs up to Save our Supported Housing Campaign

The Housing LIN is proud to be a signatory to the National Housing Federation’s (NHF) campaign, #SOSHousing. Over 150 other organisations and charities have signed a letter to the Prime Minister and the Chancellor of the Exchequer urging government to invest in supported housing.
The coalition of organisations are asking the government to:
- Significantly increase funding for housing-related support to at least £1.6bn per year.
- Commit to delivering more supported homes by 2040, with clear funding in the Affordable Homes Programme and supported homes a key part of the government’s 1.5m housebuilding target.
- Ensure that the long-term housing strategy and homelessness strategy encompass the vital role of supported housing in the housing system.
In addition to making the case for supported housing, the NHF have published a research briefing - The Financial Benefits of Supported Housing - which includes new statistics showing that building enough supported homes to meet projected need by 2040 could save the public purse £6bn every year at today’s prices.
Jeremy Porteus, Housing LIN's CEO said:
“We whole-heartedly support the NHF’s #SOSHousing campaign. Supported housing
is an important accommodation of choice for many people in need of care and support at home thereby avoiding more costly interventions. It is therefore vital that new and existing supported housing is adequately funded and resourced.”
And if you found this of interest, join us for the Housing LIN’s HAPPI Hour session on Tuesday, 1 July, when we will be putting the spotlight on supported housing.
