The Housing LIN was proud to attend the 2nd Inclusive Living Alliance conference this week at the University of Stirling, hosted as part of the ESRC-funded Intersectional Stigma of Place-Based Ageing (ISPA) project.

It was great to be among passionate professionals driving change across age, place and disability. From inclusive design to tackling stigma and reimagining adaptations, the energy was truly inspiring.

We were particularly pleased to hear about the upcoming launch of "What’s Next for Adaptations?", a much-anticipated piece of work developed in collaboration with Susie Fitton (Policy Manager at the Scottish Federation of Housing Associations) and Ashley Campbell (Policy and Practice Manager at CIH Scotland). This aligns closely with our own mission to champion inclusive and age-friendly housing across all tenures.

The day also offered an expanded intersectional lens, thanks to insights from Professor Kim McKee on gender, leadership and community-based housing, as well as an honest reflection on the state of adaptations in England and Scotland from Paul Smith of Foundations.

Stories shared by Fiona Brown and Pauline Hardman from the Stop Social Housing Stigma campaign were deeply moving and highlighted the importance of dignity and communication in inclusive living. Equally, practical design examples, such as Hanover’s inclusive bathrooms, reminded us how tangible changes can transform lives.

For a further overview of the day's activities, read Vikki McCall's (Professor of Social Policy at the University of Stirling and Co-founder and Creative Director of Socialudo) LinkedIn post here (opens new window).

We extend our gratitude to the ISPA team for organising such an inspiring and thought-provoking event.
