Housing LIN contributes to national discussion on improving housing choice for people with a learning disability
We were delighted to see Ian Copeman, Business Director at Housing LIN, speak at the National Children and Adult Services Conference (NCASC) 2025 in a workshop titled “Partners in Care and Health – An ordinary home: improving housing choice for people with a learning disability.”
Chaired by Samantha Clark, Chief Executive of Learning Disability England, the session explored how to ensure that ordinary, mainstream housing is routinely considered when planning with people with a learning disability. It drew on findings from the recent Best Practice and Insights Report on Improving Housing Choice for People with a Learning Disability, published by the Local Government Association and developed by Housing LIN for Partners in Care and Health.
Ian was joined by Scott Watkin BEM, Member Representative at Learning Disability England, and Adam Fitzgerald, Programme Manager at Dorset Council. Together, they discussed the evidence, emerging practice, and the ways in which providing the right housing can reduce the need for adult social care support and strengthen local prevention strategies.
Ian highlighted key insights from the report, which showcases examples from across the country of how councils and partners are supporting people with a learning disability to access and thrive in ordinary housing.
