Housing LIN South West Leadership Set focuses on healthy neighbourhoods and age-friendly communities

SW Leadership Set meeting 161025 sml

With an increasing priority on neighbourhood health, 3 New Towns announced for the region and Dorset Council the 100th to receive age-friendly status in the UK, our South West Leadership Set met online this afternoon to focus on the paths for creating healthier places for an ageing population.

We were joined by Michael Chang, a leading expert and the Healthy Planning Lead at NHS Property Services, who presented on the latest national planning, health, and regeneration policies, demonstrating how neighbourhood health can tackle health inequalities and deliver better outcomes.

He was followed by Sarah Parsons, the Ageing Well Lead at Dorset Council, who outlined the beginning of the council’s journey as an age-friendly community and was also selected to be one of the Neighbourhood Health Implementation Areas.

In the spirit of healthy neighbourhoods and age-friendly communities, we were also delighted to report that Bridport Cohousing, Hazelmead, in Dorset, was the winner of winners at this National Housing Design Awards held in London last month. Read the Housing LIN case study here.
