Housing LIN Celebrates Carers Awareness Week 2025

Carers Week 2025 highlights the vital but often overlooked role of unpaid carers supporting people in housing, health, and ageing. As demand for care grows with an ageing population, it’s crucial to recognise the unique challenges carers face, especially around finding accessible, affordable housing while managing their own wellbeing.

Supporting carers improves their quality of life and strengthens outcomes for those they care for. Carers Week is an important moment to raise awareness, share knowledge, and promote housing solutions that support carers’ independence and reduce isolation.

That's why we're pleased to launch a new dedicated Carers webpage on the Housing LIN website. This resource hub provides an extensive collection of tools, resources, and upcoming events designed to support carers and those working alongside them in housing and care. For example, this report by Carers UK, supported by the Housing LIN, draws on data from the Carers UK 2024 State of Caring survey and highlights some of the key challenges unpaid carers face relating to housing. Titled The impact of caring on housing, it offers comprehensive data on carers’ housing situations, costs, and access to suitable homes, based on the UK’s most detailed and regular research into the lives of unpaid carers.

We are also proud to collaborate with Carers UK to bring you tomorrow’s HAPPI Hour webinar, Carers in Extra Care Housing. This event will showcase the new briefing on the key housing characteristics of carers, informed by the latest national State of Caring survey.

Additionally, we will highlight a new research project funded by the NIHR Policy Research Programme and led by the University of Kent’s PSSRU, which explores the benefits and costs of domiciliary care. Find out more and secure your place here!
