Guidance: Closing certain businesses and venues

This guidance note outlines the government's requirements for businesses and venues to close, along with a list of exceptions that are providing key services.

The businesses that are required to close include:

  • Restaurants, pubs, cafés - apart from food delivery and takeaway restaurants, and cafes and canteens at hospitals police and fire service stations and services providing food and drink to the homeless
  • Hotels, hostels, B&Bs and holiday accommodation - apart from those that are being used to shelter: residents from issues at their own home, key workers that can't leave the UK, rough sleepers and other vulnerable groups
  • Gyms, swimming pools, nightclubs, museums, cinemas
