Government announces consultation on proposed reforms to the planning system

Yesterday, the government published a consultation on the National Planning Policy Framework.

It proposes wide-ranging reforms to the planning clustered around 12 policy objectives, including stronger support for rural social and affordable housing, and setting clearer expectations for accessible housing to meet the needs of older and disabled people.

The deadline for submissions is 10 March 2026.
