Future Leaders are inspired by guest speakers

The Housing LIN Future Leaders Programme, sponsored by Sovereign Network Group, met online yesterday. We heard from Chan Kataria, Group Chief Executive of emh, who shared his journey into leadership and how it meets the values that he holds dear, including ensuring that care is central to the East Midlands housing association’s mission (as covered in his recent Housing LIN blog).

On a personal level, he also described how, as a Ugandan Asian refugee as a child, he had fled Africa, and it was the offer of council housing that gave his mother (a lone parent family) a foundation and ultimately led to his interest in a career in housing.

Susan Kay, CEO of the Vivensa Foundation, sailed through a powerful presentation, weaving in vivid sailing analogies to highlight the importance of culture, teamwork, and building networks as a personal board of directors. The Future Leaders Programme aims to embody Susan’s advice to ‘stay curious and build your crew’.
