Dementia Action Week: Spotlight on housing and dementia-friendly design

Dementia Action Week 2025 image

This Dementia Action Week (13–19 May 2024), the Alzheimer’s Society urges communities to act on dementia diagnosis and support. In the housing sector, it's a timely reminder of the critical role that inclusive, well-designed living environments play in supporting people with dementia to live independently for longer.

We are proud at Housing LIN to champion innovation in dementia-friendly housing, promoting evidence-based design, technology, and care models. From supported housing schemes to age-friendly communities, the right housing can reduce hospital admissions, delay care home entry, and improve quality of life.

With over 900,000 people in the UK living with dementia, the sector must ensure homes are accessible. Dementia Action Week calls on housing providers, planners, and policymakers to prioritise dementia-inclusive practices and recognise housing as a key part of the dementia care pathway.

This Dementia Action Week, we're pleased to share a collection of valuable resources hosted on the Housing LIN website to deepen awareness and understanding of these vital issues:
