Setting up Supported Living Business

Diane Morris 04/06/17 General Housing Topics

How do I start with setting up my own supported living accommodation?
I was looking to go down the route of either a private landlord or a local housing association.
Also, in Wales there are shared lives schemes, is this where I begin to find service users or is there another alternative?
I currently work in Health & Social Care in Supported living and do community calls.
I am trained to level 5 QCF in Health and Social Care, and am looking for sound advice, particularly setting up a business plan and other various questions . Thanks in advance.

You could also look at cohousing as the legal and financial models have something to offer. In Oxford we are trying to find a site for cohousing and are committed to including an element of supported living (hopefully caring as well) within it.
I also think given the way social care is under pressure that those of us who can, could try to set up our own. Some years ago there was report in Guardian about fully mutual care home in Stroud where the residents had bought it from the owners and were running it successfully. Not sure if it's still going. Anyone know?

This is a very hot topic in housing and one most planners haven't really included in their thinking.
