James Pickard co-founded Cartwright Pickard in 1997 and is Principal of their London studio. He has helped the practice to develop a reputation for housing innovation, with a focus on low carbon solutions, wellbeing, and offsite construction methods.

James recently co-led a two-year government funded KTP research project that rethinks the design of homes for later living. With a range of industry partners, including the Helen Hamlyn Centre for Design at the RCA, the project combines expertise in housing, wellness, design, and technology, underpinned by research into over 60 global exemplars as well as feedback from residents themselves, to help the UK industry adapt to the changing needs of a more diverse population that is living longer.
