As headline sponsors of the 10th Anniversary of the Housing LIN Summit 2021, we are looking forward to presenting some key issues at The Festival of Ideas.

As part of the opening day’s events, Lovell Later Living’s Teresa Snaith, Customer Experience Director and Nina Strangeways, Head of Design and Quality Control are excited to talk with colleagues from Faithful + Gould, taking a deep dive into building effective partnerships to deliver at scale and pace.

In 2009, as a young architect within the industry, Nina commented that we have a responsibility to ‘try and engage buildings with the society we belong to and encourage more inclusive design’.

Nina felt there was a need for thoughtfulness to designing the buildings which help make our towns and cities what society desires and which also addresses our ever-changing cultural make-up, beliefs, and values.

During that hard hitting commentary she also referred to several issues with many modern buildings which ‘lack sensitivity and character to their location’.

Fast forward 12 years and it’s clear the industry still hasn’t caught up. So why is that? Nina will suggest what we can do to accelerate this including “designing homes inclusively, efficiently, at scale and at pace”. Resulting in sustainably building homes that will grow with the end users’ ever-changing needs, growth, development, and lifestyle change as individuals age.

Teresa will consider how the benefits of working in partnership with Local Authorities and RPs and the development of strategic partnerships with key partners can drive health and social care efficiencies and accelerated development.

While the pandemic brought the acute issues of loneliness, isolation and reduced access to care in the community on the public agenda, these challenges are not new and the ignorance of our industry in neglecting to address the true needs and aspirations of housing for older people has led to the huge pent-up demand and the current crisis in housing, health, and social care.  Teresa and Nina, alongside Stephen Wightman and Susan Rugg of Faithful+Gould and chaired by Jeremy Porteus, CEO Housing LIN, will expand on this and together with other thought-provoking hot topics, will aim to tackle why the country has a housing crisis of homes not fit for older age!
