Wales already operates a 'good home hub' model through 13 local Care & Repair agencies. We are a housing improvement service that as well as supporting households through the DFG application, we also deliver Welsh Government's rapid response adaptation programme that is proven to reduce hospital admissions by 17% amongst people aged 60-95. In the first six months of 2024-25 we: 00:37:45 Hannah Peeler: Stopped over 1,700 older people from being admitted to hospital for a fall and have saved the Welsh NHS 20,600 bed days so far this year equating to £10.9million in NHS savings in 6 months alone. 00:38:17 Hannah Peeler: We also have a technical officer service who work to identify disrepair issues in the home, providing trusted contractors for clients who are happy to pay or our caseworkers will apply for benevolent funding on behalf of clients. As well as this, our local Care & Repair agencies operate a dedicated fuel poverty service to support clients through the process of energy efficiency improvements. We provide a hospital discharge service which last year saved the Welsh NHS over 25,000 bed days. We also provide a holistic and hand-holding approach to housing and health, offering a general caseworker service which can provide income maximisation, have links with local public services and are able to signpost to wider support. 00:38:23 Hannah Peeler: Very happy to chat further about the work happening in Wales that very much follows the good home hubs model! 00:41:00 Sally Razey | Housing LIN: Hello Hannah. Do you think there is any hope of this idea being adopted by the UK? We are so far behind other countries - the question is why?!!! 00:57:51 Sally Razey | Housing LIN: Care and Place (CAPE) project link: https://sscr.nihr.ac.uk/research/care-settings/housing-social-care-older-adults/ 00:58:14 Sally Razey | Housing LIN: Linked to Nicola's presentation, this recent Housing LIN/Carers UK briefing also makes the connection to care givers and housing circumstances https://www.housinglin.org.uk/News/New-report-highlights-the-housing-challenges-faced-by-unpaid-carers/ 00:58:14 judie collins altrincham civi soc/GMOPN: judie collins Greater Manchester Older Peoples Network Happy to be working with Greater Manchester Landlords Charter team for private and social housing landlords. judieco@hotmail.com 00:59:31 Robin Darton: In his intro, Jeremy mentioned the recent heatwaves. The focus of work on housing quality, adaptations etc has been on cold weather problems, but we need to recognise the severe consequences of the warming climate. 01:01:16 Lorraine Morgan: Such an important point Robin. 01:04:34 Sally Razey | Housing LIN: Expression of Interest: Opportunity for community-led housing development on NHS Estates land: https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSdJiH8NJMSlDicQw_3-TShpkyPWFZf5zsUg1SgD9RzlfV9RLg/viewform?pli=1 01:05:07 Ellie Hudson: Worth listening to the Yorkshire Housing Raising the Roof podcast and the recent episode featuring Jonathan Wilson from Citu and the work they have done in Yorkshire 01:09:05 Sally Razey | Housing LIN: The economic and social costs of mental ill health - issued: https://www.centreformentalhealth.org.uk/publications/the-economic-and-social-costs-of-mental-ill-health/ 01:09:08 Lorraine Morgan: Thank you Jeremy. 01:17:58 Sally Razey | Housing LIN: Thank you for attending today’s HAPPI Hour webinar!
