More on Dementia Action Week 2025 at https://www.housinglin.org.uk/News/Dementia-Action-Week-Spotlight-on-housing-and-dementia-friendly-design/ 00:36:49 Jerome Billeter | Housing LIN: Neil raised issues around aids and adaptations. Important announcement from Foundations and RCOT about updating Adaptations without Delay https://www.housinglin.org.uk/News/Beyond-Adaptations-Launching-Housing-Without-Delay/ 00:37:35 Jerome Billeter | Housing LIN: John highlighted the value of ABCD approaches. It is also a core element of the Housing LIN's CollaborAGE directory https://www.housinglin.org.uk/collaborage/community-chest-developing-physical-and-social-assets/ 00:42:21 Jerome Billeter | Housing LIN: An ABCD community approach to supporting people with dementia in Stroud, a Housing LIN guest blog by John Colquhuon, Chairperson of the Board, EngageD Now: https://www.housinglin.org.uk/blogs/An-ABCD-community-approach-to-supporting-people-with-dementia-in-Stroud/ 00:43:49 Maria Hughes: Birmingham and Solihull NHS have a very long waiting list for diagnosis - longer than others in the central region. Having initiatives to support people pre-diagnosis would be really beneficial. 00:49:38 Jerome Billeter | Housing LIN: Also some interesting related research in Scotland featured in https://healthandcare.scot/stories/4105/k/ 00:52:11 Neil Crowther: The report ‘I just want to be able to dance - Promoting the wellbeing of people living with dementia through community development, social innovation, and personalised support’ written by Liz Leach and I, will be published by Think Local Act Personal next month. 01:00:22 Joanne Gardner: In West Yorkshire we're currently looking for dementia training for housing staff in the West Yorkshire Housing Partnership. We had started to think we're going to need a bespoke package developing - this confirms it! 01:00:24 Jerome Billeter | Housing LIN: From a housing perspective, building on the APPG Inquiry report https://www.housinglin.org.uk/Topics/browse/HousingandDementia/appg-inquiry-housing-and-dementia/ there are some other relevant resources Housing LIN members find useful. They include the Dem ECH project pamphlets at https://www.housinglin.org.uk/Topics/type/The-DemECH-project-Supporting-people-living-with-dementia-in-extra-care-housing/ and the West Yorkshire Combined Authority's 10 criteria https://www.housinglin.org.uk/Topics/browse/HousingandDementia/appg-inquiry-housing-and-dementia/ 01:00:27 Luke Turner BSI B559 UK: Are these workshops still live and open? 01:01:33 Jerome Billeter | Housing LIN: Access the survey by following this link: https://app.onlinesurveys.jisc.ac.uk/s/bournemouth/dementia-and-housing 01:02:11 Jerome Billeter | Housing LIN: If you are interested in taking part in a workshop, please contact Dr Aisling Flynn aflynn@bournemouth.ac.uk or Rebecca Dew rdew@bournemouth.ac.uk for further information 01:03:33 Jerome Billeter | Housing LIN: We look forward to following Aisling's research and the findings. It will be included on our dedicated Housing and Dementia webpages at https://www.housinglin.org.uk/Topics/browse/HousingandDementia/ and, in future, specifically in the section on practice, workforce and training. 01:07:16 Gemma Oliver: We'd be happy to share the research link with our TSA members 01:08:24 Salima (she/her): What about using "loved ones" or "friends/family" instead of carers? 01:08:35 tracy.boyles: I work for Housing Association in Older Peoples Services, you could try reaching those departments within housing associations. 01:08:43 jim: Thank you for the excellent presentations. RoSPA has a campaign called Take Action Today aimed at reducing accidental poisoning and emergency admissions for children aged 0-5. Because of the success of this campaign we have been asked to expand this campaign to cover vulnerable adults, older people and people living with dementia. It would be good to meet with professionals who are already working with people living with dementia to discuss how we can make homes safer by reducing accidental poisoning from medication and household chemicals. Thank you Jim joram@rospa.com 01:09:41 Audrey Harris: If communities are aware almost before they need you can break down barriers - Being entrenched in trusted organisations 01:11:30 Jane Mindar: @tracy.boyles I agree direct contacts in housing who are working on older peoples' areas. Ask for their help to get small groups together and do some localised workshops 01:12:53 Jane Mindar: I think it is about finding your own 'ways to wellness' 01:13:20 simon.lewington: People of a certain age remember a time when they could have continued living in their own homes despite their health issues, a time when families were nearby and local infrastructure was still in place. How would you manage without your car? The cost for society to reintroduce this infrastructure would be far lower than the cost of moving isolated people to residential facilities, often against their will. The whole community benefits from an investment into local amenities, a thriving community presents society with savings rather than costs. 01:14:31 tracy.boyles: Totally agree 01:14:53 Susan May: Thanks so much, a really informative and inspiring session 01:15:13 Jane Mindar: A great session - thanks so much! 01:15:16 Jerome Billeter | Housing LIN: Thank you for joining this week’s HAPPI Hour webinar!
