Susan here from Pride of Place Leeds, hoping to create LGBTQ+ affirmative multi-generational, multi-tenure lifelong living scheme . 00:32:13 Steven Tolson: Biggest challenge we've found is planning policy barriers. Older people don't often feature within policies which makes land acquisition difficult. In your research what focus have you given to planning policy? 00:34:10 Sian Richards: Saw a travel plan for an extra care scheme here in Manchester where it focussed on staff, and only a brief recognition that residents might 'go out'. 00:34:18 Pride of Place: this will be very interesting and exciting 00:35:22 Sally Taylor-Ridgway: Grace House - A blueprint for accessible and affordable over 55s living: https://motionspot.co.uk/pages/later-living-grace-house-whitepaper 00:39:16 Sally Taylor-Ridgway: Check out Julia's recent blog, 'Inspiring a new generation: Grace House': https://www.housinglin.org.uk/blogs/Inspiring-a-new-generation-Grace-House/ 00:40:22 Jason Slocombe: Hi everyone (Jason from Motionspot) 00:42:04 Sally Taylor-Ridgway: Julia mentioned the co-design with residents at the original Dora House, we captured this in https://www.housinglin.org.uk/Topics/Inspirational-Achievements/dora-house-redevelopment/ 00:42:41 Pride of Place: A very inspiring development process and scheme 00:44:29 Janet Sutherland: Julia, fantastic to see Dora house reborn as Grace at last - huge well done to all involved 00:52:08 margaret edwards: Hello Julia, so good to see the vision realised, I recall your presentation to the London LIN meeting several years ago, congratulations to everyone involved. 00:53:41 Sian Richards: Looks amazing, thanks Julia 00:54:01 april.marsden: Thank you Julia - congratulations to all involved with such a beautiful scheme! 00:54:52 Sally Taylor-Ridgway: Urban Design and Planning for Age-Friendly Environments Across Europe: North and South - Developing Healthy and Therapeutic Living Spaces for Local Contexts: https://link.springer.com/book/10.1007/978-3-030-93875-8 00:54:59 Rachel GMCLH Hub: Julia that is a great scheme - thank you for sharing with us 00:58:45 Caitriona Shaffrey: Looks like a great scheme - thank you for showing it . 01:18:07 Mary Ridgway: thank you for interesting seession. Need to leave at 5pm- apologises. take away for me is the importnace if external spaces and opportunities for exercise and walking 01:18:24 Sally Taylor-Ridgway: Elisa mentioned the De Hogeweyk scheme in Holland, we featured this in a Housing LIN viewpoint at https://www.housinglin.org.uk/_assets/Resources/Housing/Support_materials/Viewpoints/HLIN_Viewpoint_94_Learning-to-Innovate.pdf 01:18:26 Mary Ridgway: sorry for typos! 01:20:40 Dr Martin Quirke: More info on the broader Designing Homes for Healthy Cognitive Ageing (DESHCA) research project here: https://www.deshca.co.uk/ 01:22:22 Dr Martin Quirke: Cate’s recent Housing LIN blog about this research is here: https://www.housinglin.org.uk/blogs/Making-it-a-reality-Designing-and-adapting-for-older-age/ 01:27:35 Dr Martin Quirke: You can check out one of the latest DESHCA home designs via smartphone or tablet using our web viewer here: https://cdn.instavr.co/html/vraQ7hyZClUyitd6l2JN_app.html 01:28:06 Sally Taylor-Ridgway: Check out Cate's recent blog, 'Making it a reality: Designing and adapting for older age': https://www.housinglin.org.uk/blogs/Making-it-a-reality-Designing-and-adapting-for-older-age/ 01:30:14 Dr Martin Quirke: And the latest version of a two-storey home design, which started from a volume house builders standard design into something that works much better for ageing in place: https://cdn.instavr.co/html/vraQ7hyZClzulFKLfHgO_app.html 01:30:51 Rachel GMCLH Hub: I'm very impressed with the VR - I am 50 and a constant embarrassment to my family with my inability to cope with VR!! 01:32:44 Dr Cate Pemble: Totally understandable! I hadnt had a chance to play with VR before this project and the first few times using it were really weird! 01:35:18 Steven Tolson: Age Scotland Survey a few years ago indicated that around 1/3rd preferred to move 01:35:21 Ro Pengelly: The VR really does work, triggering design thought and clarifying one's own needs - whether for now, or maybe in the future. (DesHCA community OP) 01:35:30 Janet Sutherland: I completely agree with James, I am doing research with u3a members in the UK and many more would move if attractive affordable options - and a big interest in co-housing type schemes, both multi generational and for older people. 01:37:41 Sian Richards: Bigger schemes always look far less attractive than smaller schemes. But less cost effective! 01:38:36 Rachel GMCLH Hub: I was talking today with a friend in her 70s about the need for a 'house move doula' as the thought of moving was so horrifying for her. We talked about the huge need for suitable housing that sits between your own home and a care home...for me co-housing is a great way to achieve this. 01:39:58 Pride of Place: Thanks Julia 01:40:20 april.marsden: Thank you very much - really useful and interesting! Have a good festive break everyone! 01:42:10 Tim Riley - RCKa: Thank you for the presentations - Really look forward to reading the research! 01:42:29 Dr Cate Pemble: In exchange for what, would be the question. Pool cars, or public transport? And are we thinking about parking for mobility scooters etc? 01:43:05 Sian Richards: And parking for tricycles, safe storage and charging for e-bikes 01:43:10 hilly partridge: very interesting discussion, thanks all 01:47:06 Rose Gilroy: Thanks for a very enjoyable session.
