There is a broad range of housing options available but would argue if there is equity of provision in all parts of the country and for everyone. 01:01:00 Abdul Ravat: This research as an important first step in understanding if people from social minority groups living in care and housing environment feel they belong and are catered for in a way that respects their unique make up and applaud the research team and providers who took part in the study. I really like the phrase ‘social minority groups’. It’s perhaps a helpful phrase that captures many individuals and groups in a non-judgemental manner and captures a language of inclusivity. Perhaps it can replace the more commonly used phrases of BAME or BME! 01:02:29 Abdul Ravat: Last Monday gave evidence to the APPG for Housing and Care for Older People. The topic for the meeting is ‘Recommendations to the new Minister and his Task Force on Housing for Older People’. We will hear short presentations from our guest speakers followed by an open discussion. The conclusions and recommendations from the meeting will be relayed to the Housing Minister, Stuart Andrew MP and Care Minister Gillian Keegan MP. I would like to focus on 4 key areas that the Task Force prioritise as follows: 1. Research and intelligence; 2. Programmes of investment and improvement; 3. Customisation of the offer; and 4. Budgets and better co-ordination. 01:02:56 Abdul Ravat: My message to the Task Force is now being taken forward and events like this today will ensure that like so much of the debate on housing and older people, for more people to live in safe, accessible and affordable homes and environments which supports independence and delivers that values cultural sensitivity. The conventional view of, from many of the social minority groups, is that the extended family may no longer be accurate and changing for the right economic reasons which the late Jo Cox used to remind me. I look forward to playing my full part with the Task Force. Would love to hear from others in this space. The numbers are small. In Tower Hamlets, Sonali Gardens was built specifically for the Bangladeshi community. This project will indicate the range of housing types where older people from this community live. 01:24:20 Sally Taylor-Ridgway: Thank you for joining today's webinar!
