Ask away, please !! 01:16:17 Tom Leon-Grimes Orbit: Excellent, when is the film out?! 01:16:54 Hannah Gill: we have a number of masterclasses for councils coming up with Rethink, you can find out more by following the link here https://lgaevents.local.gov.uk/lga/frontend/reg/thome.csp?pageID=459497&eventID=1336 01:17:14 Jane Guest - UKRI INNOVATEUK: Really great Claire, your passion shines through, well done to all. 01:17:44 Hannah Gill: you can also always ask us at the LGA how we are supporting councils, and how we may be able to support you, by emailing SocialCareDigital@local.gov.uk 01:17:56 Mike O'Hara - DCW: I've been saying for so long that smart speakers have so much power for good. Like that lady said, Alexa can literally be company for people and help to reduce feelings of isolation and loneliness. 01:18:06 Sally Taylor-Ridgway: We recently published this blog by Jeremy Porteus, Chief Executive, Housing LIN on ‘Hard-wiring digitally connected care and independent living’ - https://www.housinglin.org.uk/blogs/Hard-wiring-digitally-connected-care-and-independent-living/ 01:19:51 Janine Williams: I work for a housing association and we are currently trialing using technology, like Alexa, as part of our aids and adaptions offer rather than just offering people grab rails or flat floor showers. This is really useful! 01:21:28 Roy Sandbach: Janine, that’s great ! Share your learning broadly. It’ll create inspiration and aspiration. 01:21:28 Jemma Mindham: And not just smart speakers Mike O'Hara - providing someone with a tablet and an internet connection and helping them to link to someone can make a huge difference, reduce loneliness and improve wellbeing, as we found in a pilot roll out across 3 local authorities during the pandemic last year. https://rethinkpartners.co.uk/largest-and-fastest-roll-out-of-digital-care-technology-ever-kent-suffolk-essex-county-councils/ 01:21:59 Mike O'Hara - DCW: Definitely! 01:23:09 Sally Taylor-Ridgway: Clenton is also on the APPG on AT Commission on Smart Homes and Independent Living. Read Clive Gilbert's and Dr Hannah Marston's guest Housing LIN blog on this and in relation to the recent National Disability Strategy https://www.housinglin.org.uk/blogs/An-Independent-Living-Technology-Challenge-is-needed-to-fulfil-the-ambitions-of-the-National-Disability-Strategy/ 01:24:03 julia godwin: Have a look at Sparko TV where we are creating virtual communities through a set top box connected to a standard TV. 01:24:53 Jo Garsden: In Greater Manchester, we are trying to under the extent of wider digital exclusion issues around older people struggling to use digital household appliances including TVs, washing machines and heating systems. We've heard of older people getting their cleaners to come in and turn on washing machines with digital displays; other have been unable to turn their digital heating system off in hot weather. These are issues which can have a significant negative impact on older people’s ability to live independently. Would be interested in understanding if areas are seeing these issues and how they are supporting older people in this respect jo.garsden@greatermanchester-ca.gov.uk 01:25:28 Ali Rogan: Great information. Also need to think about the specific needs of people living with dementia. see blog for recent innovations https://hornseyconsulting.co.uk/blog/top-10-apps-for-dementia-dementia-friendly-technology/ 01:25:55 Jemma Mindham: Hear hear Clenton. The digital possibilities can be very simple and small actions but we need to be aware of the barriers which are there stopping many people from being able to take advantage of even the simplest, smallest thing. And everything we do must come from the people who require the support and be centred around them. And connection with people is absolutely still key and should be achieveable alongside digital aides. 01:31:24 Geraldine Begg: I should have said that we have a Technology Enabled Care in Housing Community that meets regularly - this provides peer support, inspiration, training and funding 01:31:30 Janine Williams: Absolutely, Jemma. I think often good intentions end up becoming a one-size fits all solution because its easier. And it becomes a box ticking exercise rather than about empowering people or trying to improve lives. I can see the danger of this happening with technology especially. 01:31:48 Kerry: I look forward to exploring the report further, have enjoyed listening to all the passion that the speakers have shown 01:33:59 Jemma Mindham: We have so many good stories of where it has completely changed the lives of very vulnerable people, Janine Williams, but it is all because we ensure that it is personalised. Personalisation is no different, whether you are considering digital solutions or anything else. 01:37:39 Geraldine Begg: Here's a link to some of the things happening in Tec in Housing is Scotland https://techousing.co.uk/ 01:38:11 Jane Minter: Thanks to all the speakers and the Housing LIN for the report and launch. I am looking forward to reading the report and reporting the conclusions to the South East England Forum on Ageing 01:38:59 Sally Taylor-Ridgway: More on Technology enabled Care and Housing - https://www.housinglin.org.uk/tech/ 01:39:23 Geraldine Begg: You may also be interested in the wider Tec programme activity https://tec.scot/ 01:40:49 Paul Doyle: How can we help folks differentiate between technologies that provide comfort and convenience (Alexa) and technology for safety and security (Environment Controls Tekecare)? 01:40:50 Hannah Gill: email us at SocialCareDigital@local.gov.uk if you would like to join and are from a council 01:43:09 Jo Garsden: We also heard of an older man who went round every shop to try and buy a non-digital washing machine - and couldn't find one. 01:44:06 Mike O'Hara - DCW: Technology through a trusted face is vital. 01:45:16 Sally Taylor-Ridgway: Blog by Tim Barclay, CEO, Appello: Why we are fully behind the TAPPI report - https://www.housinglin.org.uk/blogs/Why-we-are-fully-behind-the-TAPPI-report/ 01:45:23 Jane Guest - UKRI INNOVATEUK: Great point Roy, to engage you need to win hearts, not just heads. 01:45:54 Andy Russell: Thank you Roy 01:47:38 Andy Russell: I’m going to get in touch with a few people but if anyone wants to get contact me to discuss the Norwegian platform, Nyby, please do drop me an email - Andy@nyby.com 01:49:02 Roy Sandbach: As we get to the end of this TAPPI Launch, could I just thank you all for listening in……let’s keep the conversation going. I, for one, am committed to helping you all support everyone to live better for longer. Stay in touch. 01:50:06 Andy Russell: Thank you Roy! It’s been really wonderful and heartening to listen to 01:51:58 Sandra.Cain: A very interesting discussion. Sorry I have to leave now. Thank you 01:52:10 Anne Crosby: Thankyou everyone - it's been really interesting 01:54:19 Ann ann@lincsdigital.org.uk: Could we just add we have many people across Lincolnshire without any connectivity or devices and without this and the training we can not move anything forward 01:54:45 Sally Taylor-Ridgway: We invite you to join us at next week’s HAPPIHour – From Moving On to Moving In – taking a look at a selection of strategic and practical approaches to moving and the push/pull factors that often determine whether people move in later life: https://www.housinglin.org.uk/Events/HAPPI-Hour-From-Moving-On-to-Moving-In/ 01:54:54 Susan Kay: Thanks everyone - really great discussion and very helpful in thinking about next steps 01:54:58 Janine Williams: Thank you. Thanks so much for this great discussion. Do you have a list of good practice case studies (initiatives, tech examples etc) which you can share or point us to? there are so many, its not exhaustive but this is one we published last year https://www.local.gov.uk/publications/digital-innovation-adult-social-care-how-weve-been-supporting-communities-during-covid Some of the projects we support are also working with Tech in the Housing Sector Hannah: https://cop.ageing-better.org.uk/members. Do drop me a line if you want to know about specific projects jane.guest@innovateuk.ukri.org - happy to share best practice and knowledge.
