People who report high levels of loneliness are more likely to perceive the interactions of others as negative or hostile, and so are more likely to retreat back behind their doors, even if people were kind to them. 1:1 CBT and befriending works because it helps re-build the relationship they have with themselves in order for them to connect with others. Lots of Ageing Better learning about this from the seven year lottery funded national programme.
