Housing LIN Newsletter September 2014

The September 2014 edition of 'Housing with Care Matters', the highly informative Housing LIN newsletter, is now out. Packed with all the latest policy, funding and practice developments relevant to housing with care and housing related support for older people and those with long term conditions.

We would particularly like to highlight an extensive selection of new Housing LIN products.

They include:

  • Jeremy's blog, 'Housing providers build homes. It's obvious, isn't it?' on p4
  • two excellent new reports also on p4. The first with the CIH, 'New approaches to housing for older people - Supporting organisations to pioneer new ways of working and review current and emerging practice' and the second on research into catering in extra care housing.
  • five interesting case studies (pp4&5) covering everything from grand designs in remodelling a sheltered housing scheme in Durham to getting the housing offer right on a new extra care scheme in Romford, and the benefits of extra care housing on the quality of life for older residents to supporting closer integration of hospital discharge arrangements for homeless people, and finally an detailed account of the Japanese health and social care system.
  • two thought-provoking viewpoints (pp5&6 ): with an election next year, exploring what an older persons' housing manifesto should look like and what are the issues and implications for supported housing of the deprivation of civil liberties,
  • and linked to the latter, news on the Housing and Safeguarding Alliance (hosted by the Housing LIN) and Housing and Dementia Research Consortium's move to the Association of Dementia Studies (ADS) at the University of Worcester. Also, check out the joint training we are doing with ADS and Sitra on p9.

We also draw attention to the new health dashboard (opens new window) on the Housing LIN website. Thanks to the support of Papworth Trust, this provides extremely helpful data and insight into the world of health planning and population profiling around long term conditions management.

And finally, we bring you the latest updates on a range of other new reports and resources on health, social care, dementia and telecare (pp6-10), along with a round-up of what's happening across our regions, future 'discovery visits' and partner training opportunities and events (pp10-16). Check out our forthcoming regional partnership events, supported by SEQOL and Keepmoat, and our poetry corner on pp16&17. For further details about our regional events, go to to our forthcoming events' page (opens new window).
