Mayor of London's Housing Supplementary Planning Guidance

Boris Johnson, the mayor of London has published new planning guidance to encourage all market players "to think innovatively" about delivering housing in the capital.

The Housing Supplementary Planning Guidance (SPG) will help London boroughs identify locations for future housing supply. It suggests ways to accelerate:

  • Delivery, including specialist housing for older people (paras 1.2.52-1.2.54 and section 3.7)
  • Accessibility (para 6.1.9)
  • Dwellings built to Lifetime Neighbourhoods (para 6.1.10).

In the Foreword, the mayor states:

"As Londoners continue to live longer, the number of homes suitable for older people must be increased substantially".
