Latest Housing LIN quarterly newsletter - a must read

Cover newsletter June 2015The June edition of 'Housing with Care Matters', the highly informative Housing LIN newsletter, is now out. It is packed with all the latest policy, funding and practice developments in England, Wales and Scotland relevant to housing with care and housing related healthcare, social care and support for older people and those with long term conditions.

It's a must read and can be downloaded at: www.housinglin.org.uk/June15_Newsletter

I would particularly like to highlight an extensive selection of new Housing LIN products. They include:

  • A new web-based programme of knowledge and information exchange up and running to support peer to peer learning and discussion, the Housing & Health Exchange
  • 8 new Blogs that offer personal views on a wide range of housing and housing related health, care and/or support issues
  • 2 new Guides that provide useful guidance on the construction of extra care housing, including recommendations on how to enable occupants to adapt to living in Passivhaus dwellings, as well as a new report providing an overview of the policy and funding drivers for extra care housing and giving an updated cost model based on a recent extra care housing development.
  • 4 new Case Studies including 'Approaches to Procurement and Delivery of Care and Support in Housing with Care' which focuses on the variety of ways in which these services are procured, funded, configured, delivered and charged for in HWC schemes for older people; 'Japan: Where grassroots support initiatives are growing in empty houses' which sets out how Japan is addressing the issues of their ageing society; 'Community Hubs - A partnership approach to creating community based services for older people in Gloucestershire' which provides an overview of the initial findings from the first year's evaluation of the development of Community Hubs in Gloucestershire; and 'Setting sail with extra care: The Trinity House Hub, Wallasey' which gives an overview of the latest development within the Mariners' Park Estate, an eighteen unit purpose-built extra care housing scheme on the Wirral.
  • 2 new Viewpoint - 'Any the wiser? Deprivation of liberty in housing' in which Sue Garwood shares her current understanding of the position with regard to depriving someone of their liberty in a housing setting if they lack the mental capacity to consent; and 'Continuing Care Neighbourhoods: neighbourhoods that continually care' where Roger Battersby argues that all of our residential neighbourhoods and communities need to be considered as 'continuing care neighbourhoods' if we are to meet the needs and aspirations of older people and the socio-economic challenges of our ageing population.

And finally, we bring you the latest updates on a range of other new reports and resources on housing for older people, health, social care, dementia and telecare, along with a round-up of what's happening across our regions, future 'discovery visits', our poetry corner and much more.
