At the time of going to press, we are anticipating that the Department of Health will be publishing the regulations and guidance accompanying the Care Act 2014 later this week. Details will be uploaded on our website and will report more next week.

New Housing LIN case study - Hazel Court, Swansea

Launched at the CHC Conference in Llandrindod Wells last week, this new case study by Family Housing Association (Wales) showcases how a 120 unit extra care housing scheme in Swansea has become an integral resource for the wider community.

Ensuring Extra Care is Part of the Community, not a Community Apart

Cover case study 95The study found that forging relationships with stakeholder groups across the local community is vital to the ownership of the scheme by both tenants and the wider community. In addition, the benefits from employing an experienced Community Activities Co-ordinator have proved invaluable, generating substantial inreach and outreach activities and helping to sustain the vibrancy of Hazel Court as a resource for the local community. United Welsh logo"United Welsh is committed to giving older people choice in the housing they need. We respect that people want a solution which meets their needs, their lifestyle choices and provides them with the home they aspire to in their later years. This should be a home where people can feel safe and secure and where there are the quality services they want and expect as their needs change.

Our partnership with Housing LIN Cymru will help us to build on our knowledge of new and innovative housing solutions, ensuring that our team is equipped to deliver older persons' housing which is fit for current and future needs. We understand that demographic trends and increasing customer expectations demand we think 'outside the box.' We look forward to working with Housing LIN Cymru to help develop our links with other providers, not only across Wales but more broadly. We recognize the role Housing LIN Cymru will play in facilitating new and creative partnerships - partnerships that will deliver a package of services which meet the needs of our current and future customers."

Is there an adequate supply of the right kind of housing in the right place to enable older people to maximise their independence and improve the functioning of the housing market? If not, what action is required to ensure that housing provision meets the needs of older people and how will this impact on the wider economy?

Join us for an exploration of how the right housing solutions for older people can contribute to resolving issues of concern to wider society. Click here for more info and bookings
